Cristina Shapiro joined UNICEF USA as the President of the Impact Fund for Children in April 2020. The Impact Fund for Children is the impact investing affiliate of UNICEF
USA. Cristina joined the Impact Fund from Goldman Sachs, where she led multiple strategic impact investing and philanthropic initiatives over 9 years.
Most recently she was Head of Global Strategy, Management and Employee Engagement for the Goldman Sachs Foundation. Prior to this role she was global head of the 10,000 Women initiative, a program that fosters economic growth by supplying female entrepreneurs in developing economies with access to capital, business, and management education, mentoring and networking opportunities.
From 2011 through mid-2018 Cristina worked in the Urban Investment Group, as the lead for the Access to Capital program that is part of the 10,000 Small Businesses initiative. In that capacity she sourced and underwrote over $250mm in loans. She also led transactions with a focus on social innovation such as the Hurricane Harvey Emergency Loan Fund and the social impact bond deals in Massachusetts, Utah, and Chicago.
Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, she was Assistant Commissioner at the NYC Department of Small Business Services, overseeing the suite of services to help businesses start, operate, and expand.
Cristina also worked at L’Oréal and ran a consumer product business.
Cristina serves on the board of Ascendus, a nonprofit organization that assists small business owners through access to capital and financial education.
Cristina received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and her MA in Economic Development from Columbia University. She was born and raised in Mexico and lives in NYC with her husband and three children.
